Big Win

The Ole Miss basketball team went into Coleman coliseum for the first time in eight years and defeated Alabama 67-59. The Rebels trailed for all of the first half and seemed to be flat although the Tide never pulled away. The second half was an entirely different story. The Rebels shot 55% while the Tide had trouble finding the basket for the first ten minutes of the half. Ole Miss was lead by DeWayne Curtis who chalked up a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Alabama lost their number one player in Chuck Davis who suffered a torn ligament in his knee early in the game.

This win for the Rebels is the biggest win in probably three years. Not just because we beat Alabama, but we won on the road in the SEC in the SEC opener. Winning on the road in the SEC is not easy. It is also a big moral booster for the team who for since Christmas has struggled in their wins. Hopefully they will continue to keep their play at an upbeat level. The Rebels are now 11-3 and play two home games this week. South Carolina and Mississippi State will bring their teams to Oxford in two games the Rebels believe they can win.

Hopefully the Tad Pad will have more people in the seats this week. I know some people are not big fans of Rod Barnes, but there is no reason not to support this team right now. I will be very dissapointed if their is not a good turnout this week.

I'll try to have some research on the South Carolina team sometime before Wednesday. To be honest I can not even name who their coach is or one player that has been their the past 4 years.
