Chadwick Continues His Streak
(SID)OXFORD, Miss. – For the seventh year in a row, the Ole Miss men’s tennis team will host an NCAA Regional, as the field of 64 was announced for the 2007 Men’s Tennis NCAA Championships Tuesday.
Coming to Oxford for the four-team regional will be Jacksonville State, Minnesota and South Alabama. For the first time since 2002, no other SEC team will be at the Oxford Regional. This will also mark the second appearance here for both South Alabama and Jacksonville State. The Rebels defeated South Alabama 4-0 in the second round of the NCAAs in 1999 and downed JSU 4-0 in the first round in 2005. The Rebels last played Minnesota in the round of 16 in 1996, winning 4-0.
“We are very excited about being able to host again,” head coach Billy Chadwick said. “We are looking forward to the teams coming in. It’s that time of year. No one likes to play anyone from the conference that you’ve played a lot. We feel like we did get a break in that all the SEC teams are tough. There was no one in the SEC that we wanted here.”
The Rebels will face Jacksonville State in the first round Friday, May 11 at 4:00 p.m. Minnesota and South Alabama will square off in the other match at 1 p.m. The final will be played at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 12 with the winner advancing to the “Sweet Sixteen” in Athens, Ga.
