Stan Torgerson, the former long-time radio play-by-play broadcaster for Ole Miss football and basketball games, died tonight at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, said John Johnson, the news director of Meridian television station WTOK.

Torgerson was 82. A cause of death was not immediately available.

Johnson said Torgerson had worked as a news reporter and talk-show host at WTOK up until May.

“He’d been ill off and on over the last two or three years but he always found his way back to the newsroom,” Johnson said. “He was a fighter.”
