Another One Bites the Dust
(UMAA)OXFORD, Miss. - Following an MRI in the morning that showed a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee, Ole Miss senior defensive tackle Peria Jerry underwent arthroscopic surgery Monday afternoon to repair the cartilage. The procedure was performed at the Oxford Surgery Center, and rehab started immediately. There is no timetable for his return, according to Ole Miss head athletic trainer Tim Mullins.”We’re thankful a ligament was not involved, and we’re glad Peria will be back this season,” said Rebel head coach Houston Nutt. “We’ve had a bad injury bug to our defensive line this preseason. Fortunately, we feel none of the injuries have been season ending, and we’re looking forward to getting everyone back.”A native of Batesville, Miss., Jerry missed time earlier this preseason with an unrelated injury to his right knee, and had returned to the practice field on Thursday. A preseason All-America honoree by Phil Steele, Jerry is on watch lists for the Nagurski Trophy and Outland Trophy and was rated the nation’s No. 1 senior defensive tackle by Pro Football Weekly.
