Where is he now?

In this weeks look into the Gerald Glass era we take a look at Ed Murphy. Murphy coached the Rebels from 1986-1992 having a 76-92 record, although he did carry the Rebels to the SEC Tournament finals and 2 NIT appearances. Murphy coached the likes of Rod Barnes, Edmund Fitzgerald, Juah Lieutenhen, Joe Harvell, and Patrick Eddie. Murphy is currently the Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach at the State University of West Georgia. Murphy's team currently has a record of 10-0. Murphy now 62 has battled a fight with cancer, yet continues to coach each day. After being fired by Ole Miss, Murphy spent one year as a TV commentator, before returning to the coaching ranks. Murphy has been credited with revolutionizing the basketball spirit and tradition of West Georgia. I can remember being at the SEC Basketball Tournament in Orlando, FL in 1990 when Murphy and the Rebels lost to Alabama in the championship game. That game also marks the lowest attendance record ever in the modern era to a SEC Tournament Championship Game. Joe Harvell and Gerald Glass both made the tournament team that year. Murphy will be remembered for taking the Rebels to this championship game. However, Murphy could not cut it in the SEC. He has done well with West Georgia and we wish him well.
